Deadliest Warrior: Review

The TV show that got me into weapons as a kid was Spike TV’s Deadliest Warrior. On the show, experts in the field pit one ancient war craft against another. For instance Gladiators versus Spartans or Navy Seals vs. Genghis Khan. They test four categories of weapons: a short range weapon, a mid range weapon, a long range weapon, and a specialty weapon.

The teams test these weapons on different targets, including silhouette targets, mannequins, pig carcasses, ballistic gel torsos, cattle carcasses and more. The show’s producers have added pressure mats, sensors, chronometers and more to test the force and speed of each weapon. Sometimes the targets are covered in whatever the time period opponent would be wearing.

Once the results are cataloged, the experts then determine which opponent has an edge in a specific category. This data is collected and fed into a computer simulation to determine the winner of one thousand battles. After the dramatization, the winner is declared.

It’s an excellent way to learn history, battles, methods of fighting and how they’ve changed. Here’s a list of all the episodes:
